[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The aim of the “From science to practice” project is to provide municipalities with a low-threshold, company-independent advisory service. As one of the test municipalities, Lanzendorf was examined by the experts Johannes Selinger and Martina Nagl. The basis for this was a workshop with Mayor Silvia Krispel, Deputy Mayor Heinz Blocher and KLAR! Lanzendorf+ Manager Sonja Wirgler, where “hot spots” were identified using a map of the municipality. The next step was a walkabout, which took the project team from Lanzendorf-Rannersdorf train station to the square in front of the Volkshaus and on to the biodiversity areas and the park of the Caritas day care center. Johannes Selinger then presented the results to the local council in Lanzendorf. The project team found a high degree of sealing and land use conflicts in every municipality examined. This results in overheating in summer: after all, asphalt heats up to 58 degrees at an outside temperature of 30 degrees. Even at 11 p.m., it radiates 32 degrees, which means that it hardly cools down in town centers. This can be remedied by trees with large crowns, which Selinger describes as a “secret weapon for a better quality of life outdoors”.
