The first hot days with temperatures above 30 degrees in the shade show that trees have an essential effect in the fight against summer overheating. Our tour of the town on May 2, 2025 impressively demonstrated just how much better the quality of life is under tall, old trees. A thermographic analysis of the Lanzendorf area revealed temperature differences of around 20 degrees between sealed surfaces and green oases such as the park behind the Caritas daycare center. This impressive phenomenon is based on a combination of evaporation and shading, whereby trees reduce the ambient temperature and improve the local climate in the long term.
However, trees are much more than just climate regulators: they are habitats for an immense variety of plants and animals, promote biodiversity and contribute to ecological stability. They also transform urban spaces into lively meeting places that enhance the quality of life and well-being. This is why it is so important to preserve old trees and ensure quality of life for future generations by planting new ones.
