Star author Martina Parker in the KLAR! Lanzendorf+

Star author Martina Parker presented her reading on May 15, 2025 in Zwölfaxing with a lot of charm and humor. The program started with an interview with KLAR! manager Sonja Wirgler. Many of the tips found in Martina Parker’s bestsellers could have been taken from guides to climate-fit gardening. The author talked about her life: she used vegetable plants grown in old metal tins to promote her first book. One of the topics was also plant patches: until the 1980s, they could be found in almost every village in southern Burgenland. These “community gardens” are enjoying great popularity again today, with more and more communities setting up snack gardens for the population, thus creating retreats in nature and promoting biodiversity in the village.

Countless other tips and delicious recipes can be found in Martina Parker’s new book, “Uncovered”. One chapter deals with “Species protection for almost forgotten words”. Together with the audience, Martina explains, for example, what is meant by “anbandln” and how chaotic life is when a “Ballawatsch” happens. After the reading, Sonja Wirgler and Martina Parker demonstrated how to make seed ribbons from toilet paper, flour paste and seeds: The seeds are placed at the right distance so that the young plants thrive better.

Martina Parker provided exciting insider information about the current film adaptation of “Zuagroast” in between the program.

Many of the numerous visitors took the opportunity to buy and have Martina Parker’s novels and the latest non-fiction book signed at the book table of the bookshop on the main square in Schwechat. The evening ended with a great buffet, lovingly prepared by the staff of the municipality.

We are delighted that Martina Parker has agreed to come to Zwölfaxing again on 21.5.2026. So make a note of the date in your calendar, more information will follow.
