Concept and goals

The implementation concept of KEM Energie³

The KEM Energie³ municipalities were the pioneers and trailblazers in the Römerland-Carnuntum region, which began to take steps towards energy independence based on renewables back in the 1990s. All three municipalities have a large number of different renewable energy plants (wind power, biogas, agricultural PV research plant(s), biomass cogeneration plants) and are therefore “frontrunner municipalities” in Lower Austria when it comes to energy. The existing excellent cooperation between all three municipalities was intensified during the implementation phase.

The KEM-Energie³ packages of measures

In the course of the continuation phase, various key topics will be implemented in the form of a wide range of activities and events. These are:

  • Renewable energy communities (exploratory study)
  • Renewable energy communities (implementation & support)
  • Further strengthening solar energy – da capo
  • Blackout protection based on renewable energy
  • “Out of oil & gas” – in focus
  • Climate-friendly construction – renovation
  • Shading and shading in all variations
  • Everyday life by bike
  • Alternative mobility – we’re staying tuned
  • “Repairing instead of throwing away” – circular economy & co

The goals of KEM Energie³

KEM Energie³ acts as a pioneer in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The aim is to be a pioneer and to take sustainable steps towards complete energy independence on the basis of regionally available resources (“renewables”). The core objectives are

  • Evaluation and activation of potential implementation projects in the area of renewables / energy efficiency with a particular focus on municipal properties
  • Implementation of the first energy communities and municipal energy communities
  • Sustainable mobility (conversion of the municipal vehicle fleet to e-mobility, from e-cargo bikes to small e-trucks)
  • Cycling: Expansion of inner-city cycle paths and cycle connections between the KEM municipalities, awareness-raising
  • Continuous increase in the share of renewable energy
  • Continuous increase in the proportion of PV with rooftop systems (keyword: storage, PV self-supply) and agrivoltaic systems
  • Continuous reduction of the total energy requirement
  • Support and guidance for the regional municipalities in all energy and energy efficiency issues as well as energy space planning and green space planning
  • Motivation and awareness-raising among the local population and stakeholders, with a particular focus on the next generation (children/young people)
