Blackout! What to do when it gets dark? – Info evening Bruck/Leitha

How do I prepare for a blackout?

What needs to be considered?

What do I have to take care of myself?

Where can I get information and help?

These and many more questions were answered by Mr. Helmut Nossek from the Lower Austrian Civil Protection Association at the event organized by the municipality of Bruck/Leitha and KEM Energie³ on 24.11.2022.
The following aspects were also addressed:

  • Private storage with drinks and long-life food, cooking facilities if the power fails
  • Communication options when the cell phone no longer works
  • Availability of cash when ATMs break down
  • Refuel before the car tank is completely empty
  • Self-protection infrastructure: stores, water supply, sewage, electricity, heating, security
  • Family situation
  • Neighborhood help
  • Where can I get help if I need it?

In addition, the three municipalities have developed an internal blackout strategy together with the volunteer fire departments and the KEM. To this end, critical infrastructures were identified and a plan drawn up to determine which investments are necessary in order to maintain various infrastructure facilities as well as possible in the event of a blackout. Work is currently underway to implement the individual measures.
