Nibbling orchard in Hof am Leithaberge: a project for the community and nature

The municipality of Hof am Leithaberge has launched a snack orchard – a project that is part of the CLEAR! On the Leithaberge was designed and implemented step by step. The aim is to offer citizens the opportunity to harvest local, resistant fruit varieties directly on site and to create a meeting place close to nature. A flower meadow was sown in Feldgasse in the spring, followed by a meadow orchard planted with ten fruit trees such as apple, pear, apricot, cherry and plum. On Thursday 07.11.2024, the snack orchard was expanded with raspberry and currant bushes – actively supported by the pupils of the 2nd grade of the elementary school Hof am Leithaberge. The children enthusiastically helped with planting and watering the plants and learned exciting things about gardening along the way. “The children were visibly proud and asked if they could visit their planted shrubs again soon,” reports Julia Jüly, manager of KLAR! Mayor Felix Medwenitsch adds: “The snack orchard should be a place for everyone to linger and harvest the fruits of the trees from their own village – an enrichment for the entire community.” As an additional creative contribution, the pupils also designed lettering for the garden’s future information board. Principal Hausböck and class teacher Stefanie Fellner are happy to support the project. Photo credit: Market town of Hof / Stefan Germershausen
