Petronell-Carnuntum continues to focus on renewable energy

100% agreement across all political groups in the municipal council: The formal signing of the partnership agreement between the market town and the operating companies VERBUND Green Power, ENERGIEPARK Bruck/Leitha, Ökowind and BLOCH3 seals the repowering of the Petronell I wind farm.

Since 2004, the 11 wind turbines at the Petronell I wind farm have been reliably supplying clean, green electricity to the region. The unanimous decision by the municipal council in June 2025 laid the foundation for the repowering of the wind farm. In future, 10 modern, more powerful wind turbines with significantly higher output will rotate here and replace the old turbines. The project takes into account the special location and the historical and archaeological significance of the site: adapted to the visual axis to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Danube Limes and the proximity to the Donauauen National Park, the turbines will be erected in harmony with nature.

The project partners and the market town of Petronell-Carnuntum can look back on a successful, long-standing partnership that is characterized by a common goal: the sustainable expansion of renewable energy and the environmentally friendly development of Petronell-Carnuntum while respecting its historical heritage.

Mayor Leonard Brassat is delighted with the many years of regional cooperation: “With repowering, we are consistently pursuing our path towards the optimal use of renewable energy, on which we have already been able to realize numerous pioneering projects. We look forward to continuing this success story in the future. In doing so, we also want to set an example for more renewable energy in the region and make a contribution to climate neutrality.

For the repowering, the zoning plan in the municipality had to be amended. The project is on schedule thanks to the excellent cooperation of all those responsible. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2028.

“Our excellent cooperation and long-standing partnership with the market town of Petronell-Carnuntum and all municipal representatives – it was a unanimous municipal council decision across all political groups – is a role model for successful regional cooperation. We share the vision of a green future and are jointly committed to the expansion of renewable energy and thus to security of supply in our own country. Because only renewable energy is climate-neutral,” emphasize the project managers Lisa Csenar, Managing Director of VERBUND Green Power Österreich GmbH, Michael Hannesschläger, Managing Director of Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, Julian Weiß, Managing Director of Ökowind EE GmbH and Franz Blochberger, Managing Director of BLOCH3 in unison.

With the signing of the cooperation agreement on repowering by Mayor Leonard Brassat and representatives of all four project operators, the successful joint path is being continued.
