How climate-friendly is Maria Lanzendorf?

Where are climate-friendly places with a good quality of stay, what about natural shading by trees and what can climate-friendly local development look like in Maria Lanzendorf? These were some of the questions that climate change adaptation expert Johannes Selinger discussed on April 7, 2025 with Deputy Mayor Christoph Lampert and KLAR! Manager Sonja Wirgler discussed.

First of all, problem areas were marked in the zoning plan, followed by a site inspection on foot. The expert rated the easy accessibility of the train station and the compact town center of the municipality as very positive. This means that routes within the municipality can be easily covered on foot or by bike.

Flood protection was also discussed: Johannes Selinger made a recommendation to use the existing retention basin more efficiently and possibly allow flooding in the event of a 30-year flood. The area would also be ideal for promoting biodiversity in the village.

Selinger described trees as a natural and best measure against summer heat in public spaces. Trees should always be taken into consideration when planning roads and developing towns. However, they can only develop in a sufficiently large root area filled with a permeable substrate. It is planned to present the results of the tour to the local council.
