About the project
The project “Energy heroes in their first home” is being carried out as part of the funding call “Model projects – climate-resilient transformation in regions” with the regional development association Römerland Carnuntum.
The project is aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 25 who are about to move out of their parents’ home. In workshops and with interactive tools, the project team provides know-how to raise awareness of the issue of saving energy and water in the home.
The workshops are divided into 4 modules and can be selected individually by the clubs. The modules:
- Homebase check: Checklist for assessing apartments, reading energy figures, household budget and co.
- Home power: Electricity basics such as switching tariffs, reading electricity bills, saving tips and energy-efficient appliances
- Heat hacker: everything about heating, different heating systems, hacks to save heating costs etc.
- Energy 4 future: innovative topics such as energy communities, balcony power plants and smart homes
Here are some of the contents:
- Household budget – Can I afford the apartment?
- Tools for finding accommodation
- Assessment of the location of the apartment with regard to the expected heating and cooling requirements
- Advantages and disadvantages of different heating systems
- Reading and understanding the energy certificate
- Selection of electrical appliances with regard to energy efficiency
- Tips for saving electricity and water in everyday life
- Choosing and switching electricity providers
- Smart Home
- Cooling in summer
The project carries out prevention work to protect young people from energy poverty. The project runs from September 2025 to August 2026.
The results of the project as well as the tools and guidelines developed are continuously updated on the website.
