Significant increase in efficiency through repowering at Höflein wind farm

Fewer wind turbines, but more power: The municipality of Höflein signs a partnership agreement for repowering with ÖKOENERGIE from Wolkersdorf and Energiepark Bruck/Leitha in the presence of State Premier Stephan Pernkopf.

“Repowering is one of the pillars on which we are increasingly focusing in our recently presented 5-point programme of measures for the expansion of renewable energies in the state,” emphasized Deputy Provincial Governor Stephan Pernkopf at the signing of the partnership agreement. “Lower Austria is on the road to energy independence; we want to triple the yield from wind power alone in the state by 2035. With the expansion of wind power in the state, we are well on the way to achieving these goals together. Because – it can only be done together if everyone joins in! I am delighted that ÖKOENERGIE and Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, two Lower Austrian pioneering companies in the field of wind power utilization, are joining forces for the repowering in Höflein.

Repowering brings significant increase in efficiency

ÖKOENERGIE’s five existing wind turbines at the Höflein wind farm have been supplying clean and climate-neutral wind power since 2002. With the planned repowering, ÖKOENERGIE is now focusing on a significant increase in efficiency at the Höflein wind farm. There are currently 33 wind turbines from various operators in Höflein. After the repowering, there will be 31 turbines. Mayor Otto Auer from Höflein is delighted with the partnership agreement: “In Höflein, we have relied on wind power for many years. With the repowering, we are increasing the yield immensely – this will take us a good step closer to energy independence. The fact that we can sign the partnership agreement with our partners ÖKOENERGIE and Energiepark Bruck/Leitha in the presence of LHStv. Pernkopf today makes me proud and shows that we are living the switch to renewable energy.”

Double the power, triple the yield

The planned repowering will involve the use of the latest generation of wind turbines, which will significantly increase the yield. Instead of the five existing turbines with a current output of 7 MW, three turbines will produce wind power in future. The output of the new wind turbines is expected to be 18 MW – i.e. more than twice as much! The yield is forecast to increase from approx. 15 million kWh to around 45 million kWh!

Regional partnership and added value

ÖKOENERGIE operates more than 100 wind turbines, most of them in Lower Austria. “We have been operating our wind farm in Höflein since 2002. With the repowering, we are relying on modern, efficient, state-of-the-art turbines. This means that fewer turbines will generate more wind power in future. We are investing in regional value creation, regional jobs and an independent, clean, climate-neutral energy future in the country,” explained ÖKOENERGIE Managing Director Richard Kalcik at the signing of the partnership agreement in St. Pölten. Energiepark Bruck/Leitha Managing Director Michael Hannesschläger is delighted about the joint cooperation: “We have been dedicated to renewable energy at the energy park since 1995 and operate 54 wind turbines in the region. We have been a partner of the municipality of Höflein for many years, have strong regional roots and will contribute our strengths, our knowledge and our experience to the joint project in cooperation with ÖKOENERGIE.

Key data about the project:

3 wind turbines with a total output of 18 MW 45 million kWh generated – that’s enough electricity for around 10,500 households in Lower Austria
